Today Chris is presenting a paper at a conference at the University. His topic is "Identity Crisis in Eighteenth Century China - Stone or Jade?" I read most of his paper and I actually understood it. As you can see by this picture, this imperial concubine was suffering from more than one type of identity crisis. She is not only dresses as a man, but also as a European. Very interesting. Everyone send their good luck vibes out to him that he'll do a great job when he's presenting.

Edit: Chris did awesome on his presentation. He also ended up talking with a professor from the history department for quite awhile. This prof. thinks he maybe able to help Chris get on as a Teaching Assistant in the History dept. for the fall. This would be awesome for expanding Chris' resume and marketability. Chris has often thought he would like to teach in the history department, but he thought the competition was too stiff so he may as well stay where he is in the Chinese department. However, the professor he spoke with today was so impressed by his presentation that he virtually told Chris that he wants him to be his TA in the fall!!

Freecycle

I posted a few things on freecycle.com yesterday. I had some clothes and baby things that I wanted to get rid of, so I decided to give freecycle a try. I figured I could just give them to someone who needed them instead of the thrift store as I usually do. I within minutes of my post, I had responses and soon I had over 20! This morning I've already been visited by three people who came by to pick stuff up. When it became a reality that someone was coming to pick up a bag of my old clothes, I suddenly felt nervous. I remembered [livejournal.com profile] blackie_fox's experience and I wondered what if she looked at my clothes and scoffed. I actually went to my closet and pulled out a couple more things. Silly, I know. Fortunately everyone who came by was kind and thankful. I got rid of some of my old clothes, some of Chris', a few pairs of nursing pj's, a baby walker, a play mat, and a crawl through tunnel. I wish I could've given the walker to my sweet sis who is pregnant, but we live too far apart. The woman who took the walker told me that her 2 year old son has Down's Syndrome and can't walk yet. That's why she was taking it. It feels good to be able to help someone out who can really use it.
