Here is the hall I walk down every morning on my way to the Asian Reading room.

A closer look at the ceiling

All along the wall are paintings of different scenes. I learned in my tour that artists were given a lot of creative liberty. Basically they were assigned an area and told to go for it.

The main lobby of the Library.

Fountain in front of the Jefferson building.

And now, a peek behind the scenes: This is the deck right off the Asian reading room where some of the overflow is kept. I think it's interesting that even in here, the floor is marble.

Here's one of the cards from which I get the information to catalog the manuscripts. As you can see, the handwriting is quite old school. I'm finally starting to get the hang of deciphering it.

Here is how it looks on the computer--notice the diacritics.

Date: 2009-06-10 07:06 pm (UTC)It's so beautiful. I wonder if people who work there for a long time ever not notice how awesome it is, or if it's like, "wow" at least once every day.
