Aside from the fact that I've slipped and fallen on ice twice today, I'm having a wonderful birthday. This morning my MIL called first thing to sing to me. I was still in my pj's :) It was a lovely way to start the day. My first slip on the ice came as I was loading up the boys to take them to school. I landed on my hip, but no big deal. I was more embarrassed than hurt.
When I arrived home from taking the boys, my sister Wendy was on the phone with Chris waiting to wish me happy birthday. While I was talking to her, my sister Holly beeped in. While I was talking to Holly, my mom beeped in. It is very nice to feel so loved and remembered on my birthday. Some of you may recall that last year on my birthday I spent the whole day traveling back to Nanjing. Not fun. This is much better.
Chris took the morning off from work and spent it with Josh and me and the mall. I was in search for a new pair of exercise shoes as my current pair is about 2 years old. I found some nifty Nikes and turns out the store we were shopping in had BOGO (By one get the second one half off!) Chris found the cutest, most perfect pair of Mudd Mary Janes and asked if I'd like them. Uh, YES!! So, Happy Birthday to me :) We had a nice lunch at the Mustard Seed and headed home. Chris had a lot to do still to prepare for class, but he was very careful not to take his anxiousness out on me. I appreciate that.
When we arrived home, I jumped out of the van and opened the door to get Josh out. Although he was sitting on the other side of the van, I thought I'd take him out so that Chris didn't need to worry about it and he could go do whatever he needed to to get ready for class. This is when the second fall happened. This time I didn't fall so "gracefully". I hit the ground butt first, my butt slid and then my head bounced on the ice. As I was laying slightly dazed (wondering if this was how my dad felt when he fell down snowboarding last spring), Chris looked over at me and said "What are you doing down there?" He didn't see me fall and thought that I for some reason was just taking a leisurely lay down on the ice. When he realized what had happened he immediately set to trying to break up some of the ice pack. It was a lost cause. That ice will be there until spring.
