lizzybennetThere are these tiny, fuzzy little bugs all around the outside of my house. At first glance, they look like dandy lion fluff floating in the wind. I can't walk through the yard without getting them in my hair and all over my clothes. When I try to brush them off, they squish on me, leaving a blackish-greenish smug. What are these things? I've never seen anything like it? Are these the love bugs of the northwest?
I've started giving a ride to a mom whose kid is in preschool with Josh. I noticed that she walked and since I past right by her every day, I offered to pick her and her kids up. She declined initially but now that the weather has turned colder, she asked if the offer still stood. I pick her up everyday and we're starting to get to know each other. (Strange to think I still don't really have any friends here. This morning Mariannette called and I was soooo happy to hear her voice and talk to her! I miss having "real life" friends). Her name is Dora (which Josh thinks is hilarious, thanks to Dora the Explorer). She is from El Salvador and last week she made me some Salvadorian bread which was so yummy. Today, we were talking about college. She told me that when she lived in El Salvador, schooling was very expensive and so her parents couldn't afford to send her. She is child number 7 of 17, btw. So, when they moved to America when she was 12, that was the first time she attended school. I can't even imagine how hard it would be to start school at 12!
Listening to her talk just really made me realize (once again) what a blessing it is to live in America. It is so easy to take things for granted, like the fact that we free public schooling for our kids. Here I am complaining because me kids don't have art class. I need to be more thankful.
