Petey's dentist appointment went well. The clinic is staffed by only specialized pediatric dentists. The whole office staff works hard at positive reinforcement, so much so that it seemed a little over the top: Wow, you are such a good boy. Mrs. Smith, your son is so super cute and so well behaved. You get the idea.

The dentist we saw was great. I feel very good about our next plan of action for Petey's remaining root canal. I have an rx for Valium. Pete will get one dose the night before his appointment and one dose an hour before his appointment. It will be...interesting to see how he reacts to Valium. I can't really imagine him chilled out like that. The point is, I feel much more confident in this dentist office. I feel like they really know what they are doing and I'm so glad he'll soon be fixed up.

We made cupcakes tonight (ok, that sounds horrible right after a paragraph about root canals and dentists) to take to Petey's class tomorrow. It's his birthday! We spent all evening decorating them. They look very artistic, in an abstract sort of way. I'd take pictures but the battery is dead in my camera and I've lost the battery charger. This is a whole different issue, and I won't bore you with a discussion as to how I'm misplacing every other thing I touch lately.

Speaking of missing items: today one of the boys' friends was over to play. Zack had suspected in the past that this particular kid stole two of his Pokemon cards, but we had no way to prove it and we have a bagillion of those cards all over this house so I wasn't quite convinced it had really happened. So, this evening when it came time for this kid to go home, he was sort of dragging his feet not really leaving when I asked him to. He was down in the play room while the other kids were upstairs. I told him once again that it was time for him to leave and I stood there in the room with him until he finally got the hint and headed out. Then he turned and said to me "I need to get my Pokemon cards." Of course, the floor was covered with scattered cards. He walked over and picked up a stack, put them in his pocket and then said "bye!" and headed for the back door. I said "Wait a minute :) Why don't you let Zack look through the cards you picked up just to make sure none of his accidentally got mixed in with yours, ok?" He agreed and turns out ALL the cards were Zack's. What is up with that? We talked it over with the kids tonight at dinner and have decided that he's not allowed to play inside the house anymore.

Loved Earl and The Office tonight. Yay Jim and Pam!!

This kid... could he be a bit more unstable, as far as his family finances go? Like, does he always want to come over to play, because your boys have more toys than him?

Yeah, that's exactly what it is. His parents are both immigrants from Cuba. His mom has only been in the States for 2 years. She works 2 jobs, one of them as a housekeeper at a motel. The sad thing is that I really do want him to be welcome in our home. All in all he seems like a good kid. I just need to be able to trust him.

Aw, that's a bummer. Well, sometimes, even kids with good parents need to be shown good role models, and a lot of times, kids find that in other kids. By hanging out with you and your boys, he could find that.
