While the boys were taking a bath today I heard a spattering sound coming from the basement. I went down to discover a large amount of water pouring down from the ceiling. After a bit of study, I realized it was coming from the overflow valve on the tub. After the water got lower than the valve, the leak stopped. When I drained the tub through the drain at the bottom of the tub (the usual drain) there was no leak downstairs. It almost looks like the plumbing was never attached to the overflow drain! I called my landlord and hopefully it will all be taken care of soon. However, I know she is on vacation right now. The water was flowing onto an electrical box and wires. Not a good situation. We can prevent it by not filling the tub too high, so it should be a simple problem to avoid.

Petey's temperature got up to 103 this evening. Poor kid, I hate to see him feeling so bad. I hope it is nothing serious. He has no other symptoms besides the fever.

Tina,

Your pipes look like PVC which means that they are certainly not the original plumbing. Perhaps whoever redid the plumbing failed to tie into the overflow.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. They've done a lot of work on this house to fix it up. It's hard to believe they'd overlook something so obvious. I'm going to wait until my landlady is back from vacation to call her about it again.
