We had quite the fiasco at the airport. Chris' flight was almost an hour late. Once he arrived, we soon discovered that his luggage hadn't come with him. We'll have to go back and get that when the airport calls us. Chris brought me a Beijing Starbucks mug (to match my Xian mug). He knows I love the huge Starbucks mugs with the custom city on them. So, what did I do? I left it at the airport. Ack!

As we walk out to the car, MIL realizes she has locked the keys in the van (she drove the new van and I drove the old van so we'd have enough cars to cover the luggage need...which was a moot point because the luggage wasn't even there!) We all drove home in the old van only to discover that BOTH sets of keys were locked in the van. Call the insurance and arrange for a locksmith, go wait at the airport for the locksmith. Locksmith is a half hour late.

This gave Chris and I plenty of time to talk. He kept saying "We need to move right away. This is crazy, living with my mom." *grin* Welcome to my world! I know he's just talking and he'll still want to rest up and not hop into the car straight away. But I do feel a bit better knowing he instantly realized the difficulty of the situation.

Finally the van was unlocked, but we decided to go into the airport one last time to see if his luggage had arrived. It hadn't, but I did find my Starbucks mug. Someone had turned it into a Delta desk.

There really are some good people in this world. I'm so glad I didn't lose it, after he carried it all the way across the world for me. Plus, Petey's Pokemon cards were in the bag and I think that would have been the true tragedy, if he realized I'd lost his cards.

That's the end of the airport adventures. Onto Petey's dental appointment: No work was done today. The dentist said he needs three pulpatomies (which are the kid version of a root canal). Total bill will be $1000. She also thinks we need to get it done asap and not wait until we move to Spokane and have insurance. *sigh* what to do, what to do. The dentists seem convinced that the damage is so bad that he stands the risk of completely losing three of his teeth. Can I risk waiting a few more weeks to save money? These are baby teeth we're talking about after all. Hard decisions.

What a kerfuffle!

Poor Petey. My only question is: is it more a case of saving the teeth, or avoiding infection? I know that problems with the baby teeth can hurt the adult teeth. Also dental infections can spread and cause problems elsewhere in the body.

Yes, infection is one of the dentist's concerns. After talking it over last night, we've decided to go ahead and pay the money to get it done. After all, it's only money and his health is the most important thing.

I was going to ask the same as Hope. Will they put him under with the root canal? Ack, I hope this isn't what is planned in my future. But if Petey can do it, so can I! He can be my hero.

My comment isn't advice for a change but a story that may make you smile. Years ago, S broke off one of her upper, front teeth when she hit her mouth on the leg of the bed while wrestling with her Dad. She needed a pulectomy. After we left the dentist and had gotten into the car, she reached up and pulled the rear view mirror around so she could she her face. I've forgotten exactly what she said, but she was looking to see if her nose was still there because her face was numb and she couldn't feel her nose! The innocence of children!
