Note to self: never go near the primary room on Sunday, unless you fully intend on teaching.

It's not that I mind teaching. I love primary. What I mind is being unprepared. I mind that I never have any notice ahead of time. The teachers in our primary just do not show up. They don't make arrangements, they don't even call the primary president the night before. They are simply not there.

This Sunday I was asked to teach the three-four year old class. I spent the whole time holding/wrestling one kid into his seat or on to my lap. He had perfected the art of arched back, making it quite difficult to make him actually stay on my lap. Often he ended up laying across my knees. If I let go of him, he'd be off like a shot trying to play on the piano or mess with the music conductors stand. The awkward part is that his parents were both in the room as well. It became pretty clear to me after a few minutes that he has something going on--he didn't speak or respond when I spoke to him. Half way through, Chris came looking for me and I motioned for him to join me. I love that man :) He stayed with me for the classroom portion of the day, which was pretty much a fiasco. We did get the little boy to respond once we played ring-around-the-rosey and sand "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed." Not really spiritually uplifting, but what do they expect on no notice?

The weather is lovely today. You can expect beach pictures sometime this evening.

That's really inconsiderate. Why can't the Primary president get on teachers' cases? We had a Google calendar and a list of substitutes.

I love the Google calendar idea! I'm actually on the list of substitutes (because I really don't mind doing it if I know ahead of time) but it seems that no one utilizes it in this ward. The primary president is a super sweet lady, but very soft-spoken. I'd be surprised if she ever fussed anyone out in her life. It seems to be a trend with this ward--ask for services at the last possible minute. They really should just call some permanent subs, but the ward in general is quite short-staffed. Of course, your ward is way smaller and they manage to function just fine!

So is it just this church that is really unorganized and demanding your impromptu service or is this your usual experience?

And I'm surprised that one of his parents didn't cater to him since they were both in the room.

Now I am jealous about the beach!

It is specifically this congregation that is unorganized. This has never been my experience in previous churches that we've attended. I figure his parents didn't help out because they deal with him all week and were happy to have a break! Plus, if I am right in my suspicions that he has some sort of behavioral or mental deficiency, perhaps they think it is good for him to have interactions with other people.

I'll send you a little sand if you'd like!

Yowza, sounds like a busy morning at church! It does seem that this ward is disorganized to the max. That's a shame too.

I loved Sunday's weather! We're having blue skies and sun today too, I've got my blinds pulled up and here at lunch I'm about to sit in the sun that is coming through my window and meditate.

Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy with thunderstorms. I like those days too, but right now, I'm really, really in need of some sun and blue skies.

We're having thunderstorms right now. The weather wasn't too bad earlier today, but right now it is quite windy and thunder-y :)

We had a beautiful day all day yesterday, but woke to rain and thunder.

Hopefully tomorrow we'll get our sunshine back.
