My least favorite genre for movies and books is horror. I don't watch horror movies-ever, nor do I read horror books. Perhaps my imagination is too vivid, but I get nightmares that really upset me. I don't even allow myself to watch certain TV shows that I know will affect me that way (NCIS is one of them). Am I a wimp? Maybe. But there are plenty of other awesome books, movies and shows out there to occupy my over-active imagination.

Do I feel left out when people talk about them? Nope. I could really care less.

I am totally with you there. I just do not see how anyone can ever be entertained by watching people be murdered and/or tortured. It's just unfathomable to me how that is entertainment. And I guess I have a great imagination, too, because it only has to be implied, not directly shown on the screen for me to be horrified. I can still remember a fight that Kacey and I had before we even got married over a scene in a movie we rented. The incident wasn't graphically shown on screen, but the victim's face/reaction was shown, and I lost it. It chilled me so much I wanted to throw up. Our fight was over how I was apparently overreacting.

I can watch procedural crime shows, though. Seeing how even tiny, seemingly insignificant, clues lead back to the killer is fascinating. Oh, and we've started watching Dexter, the HBO series, on DVD. This is something that I'm super surprised that I'm enjoying. Though, it's written incredibly well, and the main character's inner monologue is quite witty. One episode was too much for me, though - WAY too much for me.

I have heard really good things about Dexter from both my sister and brother-in-law. Maybe I should give it a try; I think I can watch it free on Netflix. The only episodes of CSI that really bother me are those that talk about, like you said, torture etc.

Chris doesn't seem to mind that I don't like to watch them. I suppose he doesn't either, or else he watches when I'm not around. It's never been an issue. But, if we watch a really suspenseful movie, he's more than happy to tease me all the way through as I jump out of my skin :)

Yeah, Dexter is available free streaming on Netflix. If you decide to watch it, know that the episode that made me cry uncontrollably was the 10th episode, I think. Possibly #11, but I really think it was the very end of #10 (story arc that goes all throughout the first season, so it's hard to remember just where that particular scene was). As a parent, you won't like it either. (No kids die, but still, it's something parents just can't watch.)

We are only on season 2, as it is, so I can't verify that something like that doesn't come up again. Though a friend has told me that she's seen it all and can't think of anything worse that the scene that bothered me so much.

Oh, Kacey's gotten totally used to me not liking horror. He sees all his horror movies with one of his guy friends, now.

Ok, my favorite has to be the one of Ansel holding up the leaf. SO cute. They all turned out really well. You guys are a good looking family :)

OH! I know what you're talkign about now - yeah, that was worse than the bloody hotel room. I cried too. It was too much, I kept saying, "The babies! Poor babies!" and Mike is looking at me like I'm an alien being.

Yup, that's it. I think it's the very end of the bloody hotel episode, being as how the hotel is what finally makes him remember it all.

At least my husband didn't look at me like I was crazy. He understood and came over and hugged me until I could calm down.

Oh yeah, that was one rough episode.

The book, Tina, are much better if you want an interesting read without the gore.

The bloody hotel room episode? Yeah, that was a bad episode for me too, but man do I love that show!

I like a good scarey movie. Not a gory movie - no SAW I, II or 5,000,000. That to me is a complete and absolute waste of time, energy and celluliod (although it's all digital now isn't it?).

I don't like anything that involves kids. To me kids seem to grow up too fast, why include them in movies or tv shows that might scare them or encourage them to play act in a way that's way older than they.

But I love crime shows. Criminal Minds is my favorite. I think it's because I am really into psychology and how the mind works and why it works the way it does. I'm just fascinated by it.

So least fascinating: Romance, fantasy, westerns in books, most sitcoms unless they're smart like The Office or Better Off Ted, etc.; hour long dramas like ER, Grey's Anatomy, etc.; and movies: gore and ninja and car racing movies.

I think I'm a book, tv, and movie snob!
