I've arrived in DC without a hitch. Well, there was one hitch but that's completely of my own making. During my layover in Minneapolis, I only had an hour in between flights. I thought this gave me enough time to use the bathroom and grab lunch to go. I do so and arrived at my gate only to realize the gate had been changed. I was at the wrong gate and, glancing at my watch, only had 5 minutes before my flight took off! I threw my uneaten lunch (Quizno's caesar salad) into the nearest trash can and took off to find my correct gate. Why did I throw it away, you may wonder. It wasn't in a bag. I was just carrying around the container, with drink, fork, napkin and salad dressing all in one precarious balancing act. I knew if I tried to walk-run with it my hand I'd drop it all over the place so I did the first thing that came to mind and ditched it.

Once I arrived at the correct gate, I asked the first person I saw if the flight to DC had boarded yet. Her mouth was full, so she just shook her head no. "Thank goodness!" was my out of breath reply. I sat down and began to wonder why it hadn't boarded. Duh. I was an hour off. I threw away my wonderful salad for no reason other than I can't seem to tell time.

Once I landed in DC, I got my luggage with no problem. A skycap had his sights on me and started loading my luggage on to his cart before I could object. I shortly decided I was glad for his aggressiveness because it meant that I could just follow him to the taxi stop. He loaded all my luggage up and got me headed in the right direction. My taxi driver wore a large blue turban and a lovely bushy beard. It made me realize how homogenous Idaho is; I'm glad to be in such a diverse place again.

I arrived at my new home safe and sound. There was no house number on the house, but I knew this must be it by the numbers on either side of it. I rang the buzzer but no one answered. I rang it a second, third and fourth time but still no answer. I can't knock on the door because there's a gate so I just stood there for a moment or two, wondering what to do. I finally decided to call and leave a message which sounds something pitifully like "I'm here and your not home and I don't know what to do so I'll just sit on the steps and wait." Fortunately for my pathetic-self, they were home--the buzzer just doesn't work. I love the house, it is so cool. Very narrow and full of personality. I feel at home already.

Tomorrow I go exploring!

I know, the 4th in DC must be amazing. I'm hoping to use that weekend to go visit Chris and the boys though, since it will be a three day weekend.

Don't worry, I'll post so many pics that you'll wish I'd give it a break already!

Yes, bright and early Monday morning. I'm planning to head over there sometime today so I can make sure I know how to find the right building, etc. I don't want to be wandering around lost tomorrow :) Are you still planning a trip to DC this summer? If so, I'd love to meet you!

I realized it was horribly presumptuous of me to assume you'd want to add me now that we've met, so if you don't want to, no worries at all :-)

No, not at all! As a matter of fact, I was afraid you'd think the same thing about me :)
