I'm feeling 100% better today. No more vicodin for me :) Besides, I just could not sleep with that stuff coursing through my veins. Every little sound woke me up. At one point, I was convinced someone had broken into the house. In reality, one of the kids knocked a book off their bed in their sleep. Sheesh.

Last night we had the annual Cub Scout Blue and Gold banquet. I'm proud of the boys for working so hard on their badges. Everytime they receive a pin, bead or badge, they are so proud of themselves and that is awesome to see. Of course, Zack stands up there pulling faces at the crowd the whole time they're presenting him with his pins. He raises his hands in the air and does a victory celebration. I'm sure I'd find it hilarious if it were someone else's kid :) I spend the whole time giving him dirty looks that are meant to say "Stop that! Act like the other boys!" I really should just chill out and enjoy myself.

I have new visiting teachers coming today. Naturally I've been cleaning all morning. Ugh, I had no idea how gross the bathroom had become. I rarely use it. It's mainly only a kid bathroom...and it shows! I think the fact that we hardly ever have company has impacted the level of cleaniless (or lack thereof) of our house. When I know people are coming for a visit, to me that is the perfect excuse to get everything in order. Otherwise, I use my time to study or read or hang out with the family. I've become a lot more laid back about how orderly I need everything to be over the years BUT I still keep a tidy house. Just not fanatically so.

I'm curently reading "People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks. Wendi, I know you just read a book by her that you loved too. How have I never read anything by her before now? She's amazing! Josh and I are off to the library in a few minutes. Maybe I'll luck out and they'll have another of her books checked in.

It's a lovely spring day!

I actually saw her speak...she seems cool. I'd recommend reading Nine Parts of Desire which is about Muslim women and followed by Baghdad without a Map which is by her husband - different perspectives on the same region.

I'm going to read all her books. I'd love to see her speak. I'm sure she's quite eloquent. Her writing is beautiful.

Is Nine Parts of Desire and Baghdad two separate books? I'm sorry I'm confused (which is really easy for me, so...) Anyway, her husband also wrote a book about her same topic? Oooh, that's kind of neat - like you said two perspectives on the same region. Very cool!

I'm glad you are doing so much better already.

lol vicodin has the exact opposite effect on me. I am out like a light when i take it and sleep through the whole dose, usually w/o moving all night.

how many badges/beads did they get last night?

I realized that going backwards through your entries was leaving me a bit confused, so I jumped back to the next to the last entry of yours I haven't read.

Geraldine Brooks...is she the Wonder Years lady, the book of the plague? Yeah, it was good! She's got a lot of historical dramas out there - if it's the same lady that is :-)

Our house is pretty bad too. I won't go into it because i don't want to embarrass meself. *grins* (But my personal bathroom is awful!)

Yes, she's the Wonder Years lady. I've decided that as soon as I finish this quarter, I'm going to the book store to treat myself to another one of her books. She's awesome!
