lizzybennet: (I am so awesome)

Since I haven't quite figured out my way around these country roads, I stumbled upon a short cut to Nampa, the much-bigger next city over. It only takes about five minutes to get there and all the sudden I'm in civilization again: Olive Garden, Home Depot, a movie theater, Target, and even an Old Navy! We didn't have an Old Navy in Spokane (although they are building one right now.) This makes me feel much better about living here. Caldwell itself may be tiny, but I'm so close to a larger city that maybe I can enjoy small town life with big town amenities only a hop, skip and a jump away. Now I'm beginning to understand why so many people live out here.

We've sort of been wrestling with our landlord over the yard. It wasn't mowed when we arrived, nor were the flower beds weeded. I told them that if they expect those things to be shipshape when we move out, then they should be when we move in, and they agreed. They sent their yard guy over and he mowed, trimmed and weed-whacked yesterday. However, the flower beds were not weeded. They were simply weed-whacked. Do I make a big deal about this? I want pretty flower beds but I hate bugging them. We had to call three times to get the lawn mowed (the grass in the backyard was past my ankles, about mid-calf in some places.) I could just email them a picture of the flower beds and say "this is how it is now, this is how it will be when we move out", but the truth is I want tidy flower beds. I'll just email them and see what they say.

I'm really loving this house. It's so roomy! It occurred to me last night that not one of the boys has been scared here. They feel free to wander about and explore, and bedtime hasn't been a hassle once. It's a lot different from our older house in Spokane with all the spooky corners in the basement. I love it, they love it. It may look like every other house in the neighborhood, but there is something to be said for living in a newer house with modern updates and styles.

Not to be a snoot, but we do have an Old Navy here - it's across from the Valley Mall. ;)

I'm glad you guys are settling in so well there!

Well, to get nit-picky, that's in the Valley, not in Spokane. I realize that's close to you on the South Hill, but it's not close at all for those on the northside :) We only went there once the whole time we lived in Spokane. Pathetic, eh?

Ha - not really because it is kind of a trek from the Northside to the Valley. I guess I think of the Old Navy/Valley Mall area as "just Spokane" because it wasn't incorporated as its own city until a few years ago.

We usually go to the Valley instead of up north because we can hit the freeway instead of using surface streets. Although they're building a Red Lobster by Northtown Mall and I think that will draw us up there more in the future.

Even though I am not from Spokane, we spend a lot of time there I always thought the "valley" was Spokane...kwim???

It's nice to know they are getting a Red Lobster in Spokane, we might go to North Town more now as well....

I really want to got to Olive Garden but the last few times we have tried it was packed.

I am hoping to make a trek to Pig out in the park this year~

Yeah, Olive Garden is always a nightmare. There's a really good new Italian restaurant on Sprague called Ferraro's. Free parking and you don't have to wait 2 hours to be seated!

Pig Out in the Park... mmmm... gyros!

Once we went to Olive Garden for lunch and we got in straight away. Dinner time is a ridiculously long wait!!

Ahh, see I didn't realize it had only been its own city for a few years. I wish I had spent more time there. The few times I went, it seemed like such a nice place.

The new Old Navy is going in right next to the new Red Lobster. We lived just a few minutes drive from the Northtown Mall, so that was our mall of choice while we were there.

It's funny to me how everyone says that the Valley is not Spokane.... but I kinda see why...LOL

When we go to Spokane we always head to the mall in the Valley I don't know why but my husband prefers the "valley"

So glad you guys are getting settled and finding your way around!
