Spokane's attempt at snow soccer was on the Weather channel yesterday! It turned out that our game was canceled after all. The field marshall felt it wouldn't be safe for the kids to run on such slippery surfaces. Hmm, ya think? However, when the announcement came down that the game was canceled, several of the parents as well as the coach were really disappointed. One dad (maybe grampa) asked if we could just play for fun anyway. At this point, the snow was still really coming down. Chris and I were relieved that the game was canceled and were standing there baffled as to why people were asking to play anyway!? Fortunately, the other team wasn't into playing in the snow and we were all able to go on our merry way.

Several teams did play games before the games were canceled, and this was the clip that the Weather Channel broadcast. The Weather Channel forecasters also announced this year, Spokane has had 90 inches of snow. This is twice as much as the usual average: 45 inches. Wow. What a coincidence that we were here for such a white winter. But really. Snow in April?! Absurd.

How did the Weather Channel find out? I wonder if someone wanted to be on t.v. so they planned it all and called the Weather Channel. Maybe that's why all those parents still wanted their children to play.

Snow greeted us Easter morning , March 29, 1970 in Pittsfield Mass. It snowed maybe 3 or 4 inches and was a treat to the kids. Pittsfield is in the Berkshire Mountains and has heavy snow fall. We were a few hours drive from Joseph Smith's birth place in Vermont where it has been known to snow in July! Right now, in Fl. it is Spring and the Azaleas have about finished blooming, but it has frozen in April here. In Jan . of '77 it snowed all the way down to Miami! We got enough here in FWB to make snowmen that lasted two days! Bill
