Chris and I are having an employment fair right in our kitchen. We're prepping several applications to mail out, trying to land a job for next year. So far he will be applying for jobs in:

-Memphis, TN
-North Manchester, IN
-Rochester, NY
-Saratoga Springs, NY
-Tampa, FL
-Sewanee, TN
-Hiram, OH
-Waco, TX
Garden City, NY

Wherever we end up, it looks like we will be driving across most of the country to get there. Of course, we're hoping somewhere close to our parents, which would be TN or FL. I'm not too keen on NY, although I have no reason for feeling that way. We'd be near my dad's parents if we lived up there. That would be cool, since they've never met my kids yet. Imagine, Chris and I have lived in every corner of the country except that one.

Uncle David ( David Dalton) lives in Schenectedy N.Y.. Rochester NY is probably 200 miles west. You would be able to attend the Hill Cumorah Pageant (usually held in early August) and perhaps travel up to Vermont to Joseph Smith's birthplace. Niagra Falls would not be that far away. Aside from the taxes, politics, and toll roads it's not too bad there. There's a lot of farm country and the scenery is great, especially in the Fall. Bill

I'm sure it is a beautiful place to live. I suppose I just assume that New York has a high cost of living. Spokane's cost of living is just about right for us. It would be nice to live near our extended family up there though, and visit the church historical sights. I hadn't thought of that perk. You could come visit us and we could all go see it together! That would be fun :)

Wow, you guys are having a career fair! fingers crossed for a great job!

How's his dissertation writing coming? Has he heard from Tucson lately? I know so little about the process. One of my students is supposed to graduate this month and he's applying for post-docs all over the place. When I talk to him I think of Chris.

He hardly has/takes time to work on his dissertation. he feels so stressed out by having to look for another job, and the end of the semester coming up. In a perfect world, he would take a year off from work to write his dissertation. i could start grad school and he could be the stay at home dad. But, we're too old for that sort of thing nowadays. We'll just have to make it through somehow. He's working this summer in Tucson at the UofA, so hopefully he'll have plenty of time and resources to write then. He really, really wants to be done by August 2008.

Wow...I don't know how he does it. This is going to be an awful suggestion...would it be okay to move back to AL or even FL - find a cheap apartment for a year, maybe you work for awhile and Chris stay home to write? You can swap places for a year. Then when he's done with the disseration and defense, you can go back to grad school and he can get a job. It'd give you work experience, money on the table and time for Chris to write. Plus AL and FL will be waaaay cheaper than most places.

Man alive....well, prayers for you both. I know God will provide a solution for you. *hugs*
