mad boys, cold war spies, and virtual work

Petey still seems angry and frustrated with life. I'm so glad the weekend is almost here. He needs some time off from school.
I'm looking for some work I can do from home, some sort of virtual assistant, or whatever. I haven't seriously started yet, but I will soon. We sent back our DVR today (*sob*). It's a tough sacrifice to make, but it will save us $40 a month, so we had to. It's amazing that we lived so long with out it and how quickly we became dependent upon it, lol. ah well, life goes on. Chris would like to have a yard sale this weekend to raise funds, but I don't think we have enough stuff to sell. (sidenote: yard sales are run very differently here than anywhere else I've lived before. People have them for two or three days, from 9-5 each day. I have a theory that this is because people can't have yard sales in the winter. They are trying to get it all taken care of during the non-snowy months.)
Currently reading "The Spy who came in from the Cold". It is a fiction novel about the Berlin wall and cold war espionage. Should be good.
I talked to my sweet sis
pearlgirl8. Sounds like she is getting used to life at BYU. What a huge leap for someone who lived in the same small Alabama town virtually her whole life. Amazing, Bonnie. Remember what a momentous thing you are doing. It's not easy :) but it will be worth it (hey, where have I heard that before?) *hugs*
Josh needs me to lay with him so he can go back to sleep. Glad to oblige.

Date: 2007-10-07 08:28 pm (UTC)You know, this has been a hot topic lately for new jobs. Lots of people who run "virtual offices" and such, and don't really have any other office space, other than their home, they use virtual assistants for admin work. NPR had a story on it a while back... hold on, I'm finding it... (i know, the time it will take me to find it is so not translated here, but this is how I work)
Here's one link:

hold on, because I know I heard it on Marketplace, too... here, listen to some < haref="http://bossanovaguitar.com/antonio_carlos_jobim/chords_lyrics/the_girl_from_ipanema.html">elevator music...
Ahhh... here we go
>>We sent back our DVR today
*gasps!*
You... poor... souls!

Date: 2007-10-08 04:13 am (UTC)These articles are both very interesting. I've found numerous links for virtual assistants. It is a bit intimidating because I haven't "worked" in 7 years. I suppose I can pad my resume with my volunteer work, etc. I'm also looking into online tutoring.
(btw, I'm glad to see your comment. I was a bit afriad you'd written me off after my Heroes spoiler. It won't happen again, I promise.)

Date: 2007-10-08 03:24 pm (UTC)Besides, I'm never one to worry too much about spoilers for shows (as far as reading them myself). After I started watching the show and seeing the part where Claire was in science class, watchin the lizards, and then it went to her doing her toenails... i knew what she was going to do, kinda foreshadowy.
