My day was wonderfully uneventful :) Megan arrived at 9:45; Chris and I left at 10. We spent the whole day on campus, returning back home around 5:00. I just wanted a chance to explore the campus somewhat and see it for myself. Everyone is always complaining about how far away it is, how isolated it is, and how bad the cafeteria food is. I don't know, maybe it's because I lived on a dirt road in backwoods Alabama for several years, but it doesn't seem too far away or isolated to me. It has isn't in the middle of a huge city, but rather it's located in the country side. There are trees and grass all around. The campus is closed to most cars, buses and bikes so there is virtually no traffic or traffic noise. It was so quiet there and I could actually see the blue sky! The sky over Nanjing is permanently greyish from the pollution. I also had a chance to stroll through the unfinished faculty housing. It will be the largest apartment we've ever lived in. I'm really looking forward to moving out there.

That's awesome that this has turned into a positive thing for you. I was concerned that you would miss the hustle and bustle of the city and the nearness of shopping conviniences. You're right though, you lived out in the boonies for a long time. And I'm sure the air quality will be better for your whole family.

Many times when I'm visiting S, I can't help but pause and notice the peace and quiet there. Sometimes I notice how loud the insect sounds are or the birds. Things you don't notice in town and tend to forget.
