Today at the playground, I took my eyes of the kids for a moment to take a phone call from Chris. Before I explain what I saw when I turned around, let me explain the set up of the playground.

The playground is next to an empty marble fountain. This fountain has been empty since we moved here, and most of the kids use it as part of the playground. The fountain has a conduit that runs down a hill, next to a staircase. It looks like there is suppose to be a series of waterfalls. My kids love to climb that too, as well as the stairs. Under the stairs is a bar. Yes, there is a bar right next to the playground, and in the center of our apartment complex. However, it is very common for businesses be tucked into every nook and cranny of the city (we also have a travel agency, a tupperware store and a dvd shop in our apartment complex.) The bar has a glass ceiling that you can look down into if you are standing at the top stairs.

Ok, so I turned around and there is Connor, standing at the top of the stairs with his pants down. He is taking aim at the glass roof of the bar! Luckily, I was able to bound up the stairs and prevent him from peeing on the roof. You see, since we've moved to China I've become more liberal about my peeing outside rules. Those of you who have had boys (or are boys...) know that boys really like to pee outside. Well, as Connor is potty training and has to go right away when he has to go, I've decided to do as the Chinese and just let him go. I know, this may seem very tacky to those of you who've never been to China. Yet, I'm here to tell you that kids can pretty much go to the bathroom wherever, whenever. We saw a kid pee on the floor of a department store earlier this week. No one even gives it a second thought (well, except Chris and I.)

Anyway, although it's common to see a kid peeing, Connor still had managed to draw a crowd of laughing boys. I was able to get him down off the stairs and behind a tree for him to finish his business :)

Never a dull moment.

This is a story you will probably cherish for the rest of your life. It made me smile.

I have always loved having had 5 daughters. After reading your post today I can add one more reason why I've enjoyed having 5 daughters! Although I will add that I've seen the inside of every restroom in every store I ever took little daughters shopping!

*ROFL*

I think it's weird that it was okay for the boy to pee on the floor of a department store - that's just so unhygenic!

What are the boys going to think when they come back to the states and have to wait for a potty.

Somedays I think it must be nice to be a boy.

I don't know if it was a boy or not in the department store. Most kids here wear split pants, so they can just squat and go wherever. Diapers are a fairly new product on the Chinese market. And I agree, it is unhygenic, which is why we never wear our shoes inside anymore.

Ugh...I just...omg... this is just beyond my realm of thinking. I would never make it in China.

haha! ok, I had to laff at this. As a wee lad, I remember my brother and I peeing wherever we wanted to, outside, like dogs marking our territory. =-)

I remember well my own brother doing the same thing. I suppose if girls could stand and pee maybe they'd..... nah, it must be a guy thing :)
