Sep. 19th, 2007 09:38 pmI love doing yard work, but we don't have any yard tools! This is the first time we've lived in a house and we don't own a lawnmower, edger, weedwacker, anything. We borrowed the neighbor's lawnmower to mow this weekend, but by then the grass was so high that it was a huge job. I bought a $3 rake from wal-mart and used that to pick up the grass clippings. My chest and shoulders were super sore after all that raking, but it was a good sore, a I-worked-hard-to-get-this sore. I liked it. I wish we had moved here at the beginning of the summer so I could have planted flowers. Turns out that Washington is a wonderful place for gardens! After living in Tucson, I find myself a bit blown away when I realize people here grow their own raspberries, grapes, apples and pears. I see people at church giving away tomatoes to each other all the time. It's so cool. If we lived here any length of time, I would most certainly have a garden of my own.
Petey's teacher emailed today to say that he seems a bit down in the dumps. The newness of school has worn off and he's tired of going. He wants a day off, and he wants me to let him just stay home one day. I guess today at school he got teary-eyed because he was so tired of how long the day was. I tried to talk to him about it (per her suggestion) but he didn't seem too concerned anymore. He had no interest in discussing the subject with me. I guess we'll broach it tomorrow?
Zack had Cub Scouts tonight. He insisted on wearing his shirt tucked in! He won't even do that for church. When I asked him why he'd wear it tucked in for Scouts, but not when I ask him, he said because he doesn't want to fail the uniform inspection. He then checked his fingernails to make sure they were clean. I guess I should have been doing "inspections" all these years! He really loves Cub Scouts. I'm glad we're doing it.
Josh has had a set back at preschool. He's been clingy all this week when I take him. He cried yesterday when we first arrived. I'm not sure why, as he was fine last week. I stay with him until he's settled in and feeling ok before I leave.
I bought Petey funkeys for his birthday. I hope they work on Macs!! His birthday is next week and he is determined to have a party. I keep telling him it is just going to be a family affair, with maybe one friend. But he quickly turns that one friend into 4 and before I know it he's planning for a pinata and pin the hat on Mario. I'm not sure how we're going to handle that...I tried to bribe him by saying I'd take cupcakes to his class on his birthday, but I don't think he's buying that. He wants it all! I need to just put my foot down :)
Ramble, ramble, ramble....
