Apr. 25th, 2006 09:24 amYesterday afternoon Connor and Petey were playing out on the back porch. Suddenly they started screaming their heads off. I thought Connor had tried to climb over the patio wall and fallen onto the rocks below. Chris thought a scorpion or rattlesnake had gotten on to the porch and attacked them. That's how loud and terrified the screams were. We both run out on to the patio to find them cowering from a huge black bumble bee. We rushed them inside, shut the door and I held them until they calmed down.
Petey said "I'm never going outside again."
Sometimes it can be so scary to be a kid :)
These bees are actually quite huge. When we moved here 4 years ago I came across one and took off running in the opposite direction. Not only are they big, but they are also iridescent which makes them creepier. Here's a link with some pics: http://www.whatsthatbug.com/carpenter.html
