I went on a field trip today with Zack's class to the Arizona Desert Museum. We went there as a family only about two weeks ago, but Zack still loved it. I was in charge of two other kids, H and K. H is Zack's best friend. I would never have guessed, not in a million years, that Zack would have a girl best friend. It is so sweet and innocent to see how much they like each other, but not in a boyfriend-girlfriend sort of way. When we went through the cave, Zack was scared of the dark and H held his hand to comfort him. He thanked her. They both love lizards, and ooh-ed and aah-ed over everything they saw. "Zack, look at this!" "H, over here!" It was truly adorable. K didn't seem to feel left out and he spent most of the time telling me tall tales. "One time, I held a rattlesnake and it licked my cheek." All day long, K told me stories. It is a little confusing, because sometimes he'll tell me things that don't sound like lies at all. I'll bring it up to his mom ("K told me you guys went to the Diamondbacks game this weekend"), in an effort to make conversation, and she'll laughingly say "Yeah, that never happened."
I took my iPod, since I'm jonesing to finish Harry Potter 6 and I listen to it in all my spare time. I listened to it the whole way there un-noticed, but on the way home Zack spotted that I had brought it along. He pleaded to listen to it with H, and then I had to let the other kids sitting around us take a turn. The funniest kid was A, who seemed to be the most familiar with music. I had settle it to shuffle, and the first song he heard was "Whip it". "Oh! Devo 2.0! I love them." I didn't correct him and point out that it was the original that he was listening to. Next, he asked me if I had any Green Day. I told him no, but I had another band he'd probably like. I put on Goldfinger "Superman" and once again he exclaimed "I love this song! It's on a skateboarding video game."
I felt like the cool cat mom.
My foot is killing me. It hasn't bothered me for a couple of months and now suddenly it hurts bad enough that I'm limping. I think maybe its because I've been extending my walks to 45 minutes. I'm going to get it x-rayed on Friday. I don't want this foot pain to slow down my exercise momentum.
