Today Pete ran across the road in front of a car. He was almost hit. I didn't see it happen because I wasn't outside yet. We were all headed out to the car and he ran out ahead of us. I thought he knew better. I always think he knows better, everytime something like this happens. The woman driving the car was stopped, talking to another woman who saw it happen. When I walked out, they both looked over at me and asked if that was my liitle boy. At that time, I had no idea what had happened and I couldn't see Pete, so I wasn't exactly sure who they were talking about. He was hiding in the bushes. It turns out he was upset that 'strangers' were talking to him. He knew he was in big trouble and didn't want to come out of those bushes. Both those ladies gave me what-kind-of-mom-are-you? looks. And what kind of mom AM I? I should have realized he'd already run out the door. I'm so glad he wasn't hurt.

This morning I worked for 4 hours helping with the Postal Food Drive. I sorted food for most of that time. I was mildly amused to see the types of things people donated. Left over Christmas and Easter Candy that was quite melted by the time it got to us. Opened boxes and bags, like rice and dried apricots. Of course, we just had to throw those away. Expired food, or food that was obviously years old but had no expiration date on it (One tin of hershey powder looked like an antique-literally!)Another aspect that I found entertaining was the "rich people" food. Organic foods, a huge dried salmon fillet, and all types of fancy teas. And don't forget the token two bottle of O'Douls.
