I remember the first Michael Crichton book I ever read: Sphere. I couldn't put it down and Iread well into the night. It scared me in a way I'd never experience in a book before, and I was both captivated and repelled. I still lived at home at the time, and I remember my dad coming to my bedroom and telling me I should turn off my light and go to sleep soon. It wasn't long before I began to wish I'd taken his advice because once the house was completely quiet, I felt utterly freaked out! After I finished Sphere, I read "Congo" and a couple others. He never became one of my ultimate favorites, but I do tend to stay away from the mainstream bestselling authors (with the exception of JK, of course.) I've always respected and been enthralled by his ability to mix fact and fiction and make it sound so plausible.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
