French Impressions : The Adventures of an American Family French Impressions : The Adventures of an American Family by John S. Littell

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
Set in 1950, this is the true story of an American family living abroad in France for a year. Although the setting is different, the struggles of this family trying to live in a foreign land feel so familiar!! Who knew 1950's France had so much in common with present-day China? Crazy drivers, waste-not-want-not attitude, kids and men peeing wherever they happen to be and people pointing and staring at the crazy Americans.

Wendi, thank you SO much for sending me this book. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I want everyone to read this book, if for no other reason than the pure fun of it! I keep trying to decide who to send it to next? My mom? Gwen? Mariannette? You'd all love it!!

I am so glad you liked it. You should send it to Mariannette. I think she would really appreciate it.

I actually loved the book. I loved the kids and who the youngest one was described as never stopped crying for the first two years of his life *lol*. Oh yeah, that was hilarious. Didn't the mom go to tea parties and was served wines and stuff and got drunk? I thought that was hilarious!

Such a wonderful book. Pass it on!

I know, I want to send it to Mariannette, but she's so busy I'm afraid she might never get around to it (she's gone back to school for nursing.) I feel like I owe it to this book to make sure it gets into the hands of someone who will read it and appreciate it for the gem it is.

Be sure to tell your mom how much I loved it!!

I will, she'll be so happy that I finally got it off to you *lol*. I think she can relate to you in some way - Americans in a foreign country. But of course your experience was so much more foreign than hers. But she loved it too - the whole trying to get around town and no one understands you thing.
