We've finished unpacking/arranging the living room. Here are a couple pics for those of you are interested.

Notice the wall that doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling? I cannot decide what to put up there. It's obviously meant for some kind of knick knack display. We tried to put a couple of Chinese umbrellas up there but they were too big. I think maybe we should put Chris' vinatge camera collection up there, but they might not be big enough to look good up there. Hmm....

The first piece of furniture we'll get when we can is an entertainment center. Right now it looks like we have an alter dedicated to all things electronic and I don't like that. I want something I can shut the door on. I do love the two scrolls. We've had these since we came home from China last year but this is the first time we've put them up. I really like how it turned out.

I love it. you did a good job.

My sister in law put like southwestern or Indian stuff up on the wall that she had that didn't go all the way up.

I wouldn't put anything up there, necessarily. It's nice and clean looking and suggests continuity.

If you feel you need to have something up there, you can buy some really decent looking baskets that would compliment the natural materials of the umbrellas and scrolls.

I like your idea of leaving it empty. Clean lines are more my style. Actually, I guess you could say that minimalism is more my style. I don't have the talent nor inclination to decorate every space of my house.

You could always put some kind of fake plants up there. Or the umbrellas. Or something else Chinese. I would stay away from small stuff, because short people like me wouldn't be able to see it. Leaving it empty too could be ok. It would allow light to go from the living room into the kitchen or whatever room is back there.

What else does your family like besides Chinese stuff? Anything the boys like as well?

lol, it's not necessarily that my family likes Chinese stuff, it's just what we have the most of as far as wall decorations go. I did order several photographs from that I hope to frame soon and hang up in the dining room area. That's the thing I dislike about digital. I hardly ever print out the pics. I'm hoping to frame them all in black, so it will match the black table. I don't know...I suck at this decorating stuff.

I think it's lookin' good! I love the scrolls! And I don't think you have to put anything on top of the wall. Nice clean lines, girl! :)
