"Mom, what do you think would happen if someone bashed someone else in the head with their stomach?"
I continue putting the dishes away, while carefully thinking about this question. Most likely, it wouldn't hurt the person's head, but just the other person's stomach. But what if he was really buff and had a rock hard stomach...
"Mom?" Petey starts to ask the question again.
"I don't think it would really hurt to get hit in the head by a stomach. What do you think?" You see how he has trained me? I spend time wondering and trying to figure out these bizarre subjects he wants to discuss!
"You know what I think? I think...it's green HAPPY HOLIDAY versus red HAPPY HOLIDAY!!" He's forgotten all about the question and moved on to a battle between green and red crafty foam words. Now I'm left to ponder the stomach vs. head question all alone :)
I just thought I'd share this glimpse into life with Petey.
And now for some mama-bragging:
Last night we had our parent teacher conferences. Petey's teacher said that he was a gem! She said it is kids like him that make her love being a teacher, make her look forward to coming into to school each day. He really is at a beautiful age right now. He loves to learn and loves to be taught. He absorbs information like a sponge and wants to share that knowledge with anyone who will listen. Of course, it helps that he has such an enthusiastic and helpful teacher.
Zack's teacher was concerned about his lack of ability/willingness to focus. This has been a consistent problem with him throughout his school career. Aside from that she said his story writing is really good. He's always been awesome at making up stories. Chris told her that he comes from a family of late bloomers, so we aren't worried about Zack. it's true. We learned long ago that he does things at his own speed. When it comes to learning a new skill (like tying shoes) he'll do it when he's good and ready and not a moment before!
I'm proud of both my boys. They adapted back to public school pretty smoothly and seem to be doing well. They both enjoy it and I feel that's important. I'm glad they're happy.

Date: 2007-11-18 05:43 pm (UTC)well, heck, the other day, on the way home from the store, my 10 year old pipes up with:
"Chadd, which is longer, the future or the past?"
I couldn't asnwer right away, without wondering if I was going to have to go into the whole theory of the universe thing, etc... so she waited paitiently, and then asked "I mean, does time ever end?"
I still don't have an answer for her, and I've actually taken to doing research about it. She kinda scares me.

Date: 2007-11-21 03:25 pm (UTC)hee hee, life with Petey is life with me. I honestly don't remember the full story because I'm so much like Petey (thought-wise). Mike and I were in the car and he's telling me about some work stuff they are going to do next year. He pauses and I tell him, "I'll be 33 next year." To me it all made sense - he sounded very excited about the coming year and his new challenges. THe one excitement that I could think of was that I would be turning 33. He started laughing and said, "Where did that come from?" I don't mean to do things like that, but in my head it makes sense completely.
