We made it

Our trip seemed longer and a bit more difficult this time around. Chris wasn't seated right beside us, he was one row up and over by the window, so he couldn't get to us with out having the guy next to him stand up every time. Still, the boys did really well, considering that the flight was almost 14 hours long. Somehow, we ended up being the last ones to board the plane! I thought we had allowed ourselves plenty of time, but the check in line was very long. Each time we travel, we learn how to do it better the next time. The boys and I were seated on the very last row of the plane. This was good and bad. Good, because I could easily walk around to the other side of the row and help Zack. Bad because everyone who needed to stretch their legs hung out in the back. We were had people standing around us pretty much the whole trip. It felt a little invasive, but then again I suppose that's just the nature of flying. Connor was having a tough time for a while, but Chris was finally able to get him to fall asleep about half way through and he slept the rest of the way. Chris and I traded seats so I don't mean to sound like a martyr :) He certainly did his share of helping out with the boys.

After the flight, we caught a shuttle to the Ramada. By this time, both Chris and I are feeling delirious because we haven't slept in about 20 hours. The boys were well rested from a short nap on the plane. We ate and then crashed. I assume everyone went right to sleep when we turned the lights out. I know I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. Connor woke up at 3 a.m. rested and ready to go. The rest of the boys were awake by 4. We all were dressed, showered and ready to eat by 6. Now we're just killing time until it's time to catch our bus to Nanjing. I wish we could have left right after breakfast. We'd be half way home by now. Josh is starting to get really tired and cranky. Hopefully all the boys will sleep most of the way home.

I found myself weeping at the drop of a hat yesterday morning as we boarded the plane and prepared for take off. Part hormonal, part exhaustion, part emotional. Tears kept springing to my eyes. We were already seated on the plane, and I could just imagine the people around me thinking "Oh, look at that poor woman. She's in tears at the thought of making this long flight with those 3 boys." No, that wasn't it. It was the thought of leaving my family. Now that we're here, it feels comfortable. China isn't nearly as foreign to me as it was the first time around. I feel at ease here. It's a good thing.

OH! You'll never guess what. My new camera doesn't work :( I had to charge the battery before I could turn it on, so I didn't discover this until we were on the way to the SF airport. It turns on, but the screen is black. I left my old camera with my MIL to send to my parents (surprise, mom) so now we have no digital camera with us. We're going to fed ex it back to my MIL and she's going to exchange it for us. I read all through the instructions to see if I could figure out what the problem was. I didn't, but after reading the instructions, I realized what an awesome camera it is. I just wish I could use it!

yes, "home" it is. It feels strange to be here. I'm so comfortable here amongst our stuff, yet is this really our stuff? All our stuff is in storage in AZ, right? It's a very odd phenomenon.

My first digital was a FujiFilm 2megapixel and I LOVE it. Still use it from time to time. I think you're going to really like it. Easy features, fun to use. It's a good camera. I hope you get a new one soon.

T, soooo sorry about your camera! I hope the exchange doesn't take too long. I know that you will be lost without it! And what will the rest of us do? We've all been spoiled by you most excellent pictures. And what a surprise for Mom. I know she will think of your kindness every time she picks it up! Maybe she will have even figured out how to use it by the time you get home!

It is a bummer :( I guess I can use the camera on my phone for a while, if Chris teaches me how to take pictures of and put them on the computer.
