I went back to the ethnic clothing store and got some mary janes. The blue were too small, so I got black embroidered with pink.

We went bowling today with Mariannette and Rene. Kid's aren't allowed to bowl (?) but we let them anyway. No one said anything to us. Next we all met up with Scott and family, and a student (Margo) for dinner at our favorite Chinese restaurant. We had a private room which I love because the kids can just be themselves and I'm not embarrassed/stressed out about it. Oh, and at the bowling alley we saw a crane machine game filled with packs of cigarettes. Yes, the prize was cigarettes.

We are enrolling the kids in Taekwando on Monday. Is 4 lessons a week too often? And how does one spell Taekwando anyway?

And now for the story of the day: When Chris and I were coming home yesterday, our taxi driver was quite chatty. Chris sat in the front while I sat in the back, gazing out the window and pretty much lost in my own thoughts. They were speaking Chinese so it's not like I could join in the conversation. I notice that the taxi driver glances back at me and then asks Chris a question. I know the word for wife, so I knew Chris was telling him that I was his wife. The taxi driver than replied with something that made both him and Chris laugh uproariously. Ok, what is all that about? When it is obvious that someone is talking about you and then they start laughing their heads off, it causes major paranoia.

Turns out the driver said to Chris "You need to quit eating all the food and give her some! Look at you! You're so fat and she's wasting away to nothing!"

Well, I've never been told that before! I thinks it's very funny how shameless the Chinese are about telling foreigners they're fat. I suppose they figure we know how fat we are. They don't realize we all try to live in denial!

TaeKwonDo or Tae Kwon Do, but I have NO idea how to say it in Chinese! 3 - 4 times a week is usually a good thing, especially at their age. They'll love it!

Agreed! I think it will help them focus and help them concentrate. And maybe they'll pick up a little Chinese as well!

That is hilarious! You're wasting away WOOT! I'm glad Chris had a sense of humor about it - it is pretty funny. They'd have a field day with Mike and I.

Not that I really am wasting away, lol! I wondered if it was some sort of backhanded compliment, but I decided to take it at face value. Maybe they think American women look better with some meat on their bones?

Seems to me that the three to four times weekly would be excellent for young Americans abroad, who are home-schooled. Excellent. Providing they love it.

I'm hoping they will love it as time goes on. Right now they seem more determined to show the teacher their "karate moves" which they have picked up from watching Sponge Bob. Hmmm...

Lol, what a great compliment! With my husband and I, it'd probably be the other way around.

Providing that your kids enjoy it, 3-4 lessons a week should be about right. That's how often I used to go, when I was really gung-ho about it.

I think the kids will do well with 4 days a week. The other choice is 2 days a week, but since this is basically thier only socialization, I want them to go more often than not.

And get this! It is 280 rmb for 2 months. That is $35. For 2 months! Isn't that crazy awesome? We looked into TKD for the kids in the US and it was $100 a month. I love China.

LOL too funny - I love chinese people - they are totally unabashed like that.

I took one class in chinese - so i can understand a few things here and there - but i hate it when i can't speak another language, i wish there was a pill to pop to learn them!

Me too!! I feel so out of the loop, not understanding anything. At least I have Chris to depend on :)
