Oct. 21st, 2009 01:48 pmOn Wednesdays I eat lunch with one of the boys. It's turned into a fun tradition and we all look forward to it. I bring them something from McDonalds, etc. Today I went to McDonalds and my total came to $6.66. The cashier stuttered as she said it, like she was afraid to say the numbers. When I drove up to the window, she offered me the chance to add something else to my order, or take something off so the total would be different. I laughed and handed her my debit card. That's when I noticed that she was serious. She didn't swipe my card; she held it hovering over the machine, looking at me and waiting for me to answer. I said, "No, that's ok." "Ok, I'm just saying..." I'm a religious person, but I consider that behavior more superstitious. I'm not scared of the numbers 666. Should I be? I think that whatever they represent will be shown to us in time, but the world will not end because I went to McDonalds....or will it! (butterfly effect?!)
For one of my mid term papers I have to write about managerial style. I was required to interview a local manager of an information organization and then write the paper about her specific style. I talked to a manager of a small library last week, the Mary Esther public library. It is one of the smallest in the area. She was very nice and spent about an hour talking with me. The problem is that despite my best effort, I could not get her to talk about her managerial style. Instead, she talked about the library and the things she has done (which is quite a lot) to help the library grow and succeed. It was very interesting and I enjoyed getting to know her, but I have no idea what her managerial style is or how to formulate this into a paper. I'll be taking a little creative liberty with this one, I suppose.
My other paper is based on my observations of the public library. I went to another facility for this. i even drew maps of the library :) I should have talked to that manager, but since I'd already bugged her with the observation thing, I wanted to expand my horizons.
The weather is so beautiful here today. A perfect day for yard work.
