lizzybennet: (I am so awesome)
Today was a day full of Senators. First I met one my Idahoan representatives, Senator Risch. That lasted about two minutes, with one minute of that posing for pictures. He whacked me on the shoulder a couple of times, no doubt meant to be a congenial pat on the back and then declared "These Idaho kids are pretty good at taking care of themselves." Still nice to be referred to as a kid, I guess.

And so, since I can pass as a kid, I decided why not go for the gold and attend a "young professionals" function where John McCain was speaking. I thought for sure I was the oldest intern in the room until, as I was leaving, I spotted another intern with some pretty pronounced crow's feet. For some reason, I found it comforting to spot those wrinkles. The function started at 6, but we (me and about six other LOC interns) were there by 5:20. This was due largely in part to the efforts of a fellow intern who is a huge John McCain fan, as well as Jewish (the topic for the evening was Israel). It turned out to be a very good thing that he rushed us because there were only about 40 chairs set up in the room. Every one else had to stand. Although I was standing, I was at the front so I had a great view of McCain. He was an excellent speaker! The whole evening was quite interesting, despite the fact that I had to stand in the same spot for two hours.
