Jun. 8th, 2009 08:28 pmI am proud to announce that I finally have the charger to my camera battery. Yay for awesome husbands who mail things to their forgetful wives!
I only have a few pictures at the moment. I took these about a week ago when I went on my first stroll around The Hill.
The Library of Congress, the Jefferson building. This is the building which houses the Asian division and where I go to report to work each morning. I don't stay here, as now that I'm cataloging I go to a different building after I sign in. However, I love that each morning I get to walk down the beautiful halls while the building is still empty. Pictures of that tomorrow.

I spent almost all day cataloging. I'm enjoying it much more than I expected to, truth be told. Each entry is different, and I like looking for the individual nuances. The two people in the cataloging department who I know so far are H. and P. H. is the department head and she sits in the cubicle right next to mine. She's very nice; On Friday when my cold was at its worst, she repeatedly reminded me to go home and rest over the weekend--she checked this morning to make sure I'd done so. P. is a very patient trainer, not at all condescending despite his own almost intuitive grasp of cataloging. I'm starting to learn some of the sanskrit words that are most common on the manuscripts, so that's making it easier for me to transcribe the cards with less mistakes.
Not much else to say about today. It was mostly a day of sitting behind a computer screen. I figure I did about 25 entries today, which equals over 15 minutes per item. Not very fast yet :/ Still, P. rechecks everything I do, and sometimes he changes his mind about how a certain item should be done so some entries were redone once, twice or even three times. I don't mind as it all helps me gain a better understanding of the process.
