I just came across this as I read through the syllabus for one of my classes:

"Everyone will start this course with a "B", the standard grade for graduate level work. Students who follow all the requirements of each assigment and complete them on time, including participation in discussions posted in Blackboard, will receive the B, as long as the quality of their written work meets the standard for the University...Remember, a "B" grade is a good grade. It shows that you have satisfactorily demonstrated potential for professional achievement in this subject."

What?! It sounds like he is saying he doesn't give "A"s. I need to contact him about this and see what his requirements are for an A. Hmm. I don't like the sound of this.

Libraries in the news. It seems that we are hearing this story repeated time and again as the economy continues to worsen.

This weekend we just had the semi-annual LDS General Conference, where church leaders speak to the members worldwide via satellite. The message was definitely one of hope, and a reminder that although times are hard, we always have the Lord to depend upon. Several of them told stories of individuals who went through great ordeals of suffering, almost as if to say "You think you have it bad? This person went through way worse and still maintained their faith. Stop your whining!" Of course, it didn't sound anything like that, I'm just giving you my interpretation. I did find it very interesting to hear one of them condemn the taking of excessive bonuses by corporate executives as "evil".

Basically, it reaffirmed my repeatedly impression lately that I need to chin up and be patient. Life is hard, not just for me but for everyone. I need to stop my worrying, stop my whining and live my best life.
