Mar. 27th, 2009 01:11 pmYesterday was fabulous. For most of spring break it has been one thing or another, keeping us indoors. Windy days, rainy days, and sick days. But yesterday, everything align for a perfectly wonderful day. I packed up the kids and drove into Boise. I know, it's only about 45 minutes away, but we rarely go "in to town".
Our first stop was a dog park. Max had a ball and there were lots of hills, rocks, trees for the kids to explore. There weren't a great deal of dogs there, because even though it the sky was a brilliant blue, the wind was still brisk and chilly. When we first arrived, Max was greeted by a pack of big dogs: two St. Bernards and a black lab. The st. bernards were so huge. Even the three month old puppy was bigger than Max. They bowled him over, time and time again but he seemed to love every moment of it. We stayed for a bit, everyone getting nice and muddy before our next stop: the discover center. One last mention about the dog park: Petey had a panic attack caused by his wind fear. Really, this fear has got to the point were he is debilitated by it. I had him standing behind a fixture, so no wind was touching his body. However, as he told me, he could still see the wind moving the trees and that scared him even more. I need to talk to his pediatrician about this. Maybe it's normal. I remember when he was a toddler he was petrified of his toys going down the drain in the bathtub. He eventually outgrew that fear, so maybe he will this one too.
The Discovery Center was great fun. It was also quite crowded, but I suppose that's to be expected during Spring Break. We spent a couple hours there. I was determined not to rush the kids and just let them do their thing. I think I succeeded in my resolution, even though I was ready to go about an hour before we actually left.
Next stop: playground behind discovery center. Max had a chance to get out of the car and stretch his legs. He didn't go potty. I never mentioned this, but he never uses the bathroom in public. The only place I have ever seen him potty is in the backyard. Fellow dog owners, is that odd? Zack found a herd of kids to play tag with. He is an expert tag player :)
We also stopped at the Scout store for a few essentials (marbles and a bird house kit.) Petey made the birdhouse kit that afternoon with Chris help. He is so so close to finishing his Wolf badge! I'm very proud of him.
