Thanks for the tag, [livejournal.com profile] kimagine_this. I'll try to come up with some new things about myself for my old (but golden) friends. Let's see...

1. Post these rules.
2. Each tagged person must post 8 things about themselves on their journal.
3. At the end, you have to choose and tag 8 people.

1. I'm the oldest of six kids, which breaks down to 5 girls and 1 boy. I love being part of a large family. We never needed the neighborhood kids to have a rousing game of Red Rover (although they were all welcome to join in.) I was 15 when my youngest sister was born. I remember feeling quite self-conscious when I carried her in public, worried that people thought she was my baby (although I'd be proud if she were. She's amazing!)

2. Since I'm strolling down childhood lane, here's a silly story. One day my sisters, brother and I got it into our heads to go Christmas caroling. I think it was December, but no where actually near Christmas. We went from house to house in our neighborhood, singing and practically begging for handouts. People were very generous with the cookies. My mom let us get away with the funniest things. I wonder if she even knows about this?

3. My dad was in the army until I turned 16. While I grew up on Army bases my whole life, with a dad who served proudly as a helicopter pilot, my younger siblings never had that experience. They lived in the same 20 miles radius their whole life, with the same dad who was now an English teacher.

4. I liked growing up on base as it provided a very safe environment in which to play. When I was in 2-4th grade we lived at Ft. Campball, KY. I played at the park across the street from our house all day long. Our favorite game was Voltron, and we also enjoyed swinging as high as we could while we kicked off our shoes and sang "Footloose" at the top of our lungs. Oh, we can't forget the ditch where one of us served as the sandworm from Star Wars while the other jumped from side to side trying not to get caught.

5. I had a lot of bike wrecks as a kid. I once tried to ride down a steep hill with no hands, which made me slip down onto the frame of the bike (a girl's bike, not a boy's.) I blacked out, but still somehow kept the bike balanced all the way to the bottom of the hill. I woke up at the bottom of the hill and realized that my feet had been dragging the whole way down...and I had no shoes on. I still have scars on my toes.

6. I also have a scar on my lip where a Boston Terrier bit me in the face. Never hug a dog that you don't know! The owner brought me a blue Lucy watch (Peanuts) as an "I'm sorry" gift. He told me that his dog had picked it out for me. I was five when that happened.

7. I spent hours upon hours exploring the woods behind our house when we lived on Ft. Rucker in Alabama. I remember so clearly the thrill of exploring, feeling like you were the first person to ever walk in this place. I discovered clay gullies, creeks, "cliffs"(like there's any such thing in lower Alabama!) and once even a beehive. One time a friend and I were walking through the creek barefoot when some guys from school came upon us. They'd just caught and killed a copperhead snake. They cut off its head and threw it into the water right where we were walking. I remember thinking what idiots they were because now I no idea where I could safely step. Boys could be quite foolish at the grand old age of 13, couldn't they?

8. I cherish my childhood. It was very idyllic. As I've gotten older and met more and more people, I realized that my own childhood was very untarnished by trauma. My parents were kind, if a little strict at times, and caring. No abuse of any sort touched me. I always had a clean, warm bed to sleep in and a delicious meal to eat every night. I always felts loved and safe. I pray that my own children can say the same when they're adults.

Wow, that got a bit sappy. Thank you for indulging me! Now, who to tag?
