Dec. 29th, 2007 09:20 amLast night Chris took the YM camping. He was nervous, as growing up in Florida, he never had occasion for camping in snow before. However, this is something the YM around here do on an annual basis and look forward to with great anticipation. I'm glad that Chris finally had an "excuse" to buy snow boots! He'd refused due to the fact that we'll only be here for one winter. However, it now looks like we'll be in a snowy area next year as well, so he'll get more than one years use out of his boots.
So, he spent all morning yesterday and all afternoon Friday preparing for the campout. Turns out that one of the other YM leaders has all sorts of friends who are forest rangers. These forest rangers helped them scout out a good place to camp, and even shuttled them up to the campsite on snowmobiles (I want to ride a snowmobile!) He called me around 4 to tell me that one of the snowmobiles had broken down and they were stuck in the middle of the woods, but I guess all turned out ok because he called back this morning and they'd made it through the night. This morning when I asked him how he was, he said "Cold!" Poor Florida boy :) He's just not made for these deep, snowy winters, lol.
Meanwhile, back at the homestead, I had a house full of disappointed boys because they all wanted to go camping too. I agreed to let them "camp" in the living room. I spent a good half hour wrestling with our tent, trying to set it up in the living room but it just wasn't going to happen. Finally I gave up and we all decided that sleeping on the air mattress would be "camping" enough. I think I fell asleep before they did!
I'd also like to ask you, my dear friends, for you book recommendations. I have about 3 weeks left before I start back to school and I really like to read some awesome books. You know, life-altering, the-best-book-ever, how-could-I-have-never-read-this-before books. That being said, I also greatly enjoy fluffy, not-much-substance-but-highly-entertaining books as well :) Tell me what you recommend!!
