Aug. 14th, 2007 08:59 pmWe've put in an application on a house. It's a small 3 bedroom, 1 bath home. It's an older home (as many are here in Spokane) that has been remodeled. It has all new appliances, which is a big plus. Many of the houses we looked at had very old appliances, or none at all. I'm just so tired of this emotional roller coaster. I'll just give you a quick glimpse of what we went through today:
We drove out to a home out "in the country." It's also an old home, completely re-done and updated. It sits facing a view of the river. It has a gazebo and a front porch. There was an actual deer grazing in the front yard which runs away when the boys startle it. The whole things was so picturesque. I was instantly in love, despite the fact that the kitchen was so out-dated. The boys are also in love. However, Chris feels it is too secluded and too far away from campus. I'm ok with this. After all, this year is crucial to his dissertation and he needs to feel comfy in our living situation.
Next house is a 3000 sq-foot duplex (which they pitch as a condo). It's brand new and beautiful. It costs $1250 a month, which would be really pushing it for us. Chris instantly falls in love with it. The yard is large, and full of lush grass. There's a garden tub inside and a huge, lovely kitchen. Actually, the house was too big. We wouldn't have enough furniture to fill the rooms :) It had a living room upstairs and a family room downstairs, plus a formal dining area. It is literally a block from the campus. We decide we'll take it and just sacrifice to make it work. However, when the realtor tells us that it would take about a week to get us in, Chris changes his mind. We both don't get a good vibe from this rental agency, who we've tried to work with three different times. We feel like they keep blowing us off and not taking into consideration the fact that we need a house ASAP. If they are like this now, what will they be like once they actually have us as a customer? We just don't want to deal with them.
Yesterday we saw a small, cute home that was $895. The landlord was so nice and we liked her right away. However, we initially thought the house was too small. After all the back-and-forth-edness of today, we decided we could make the house work. After all, for the last three months we've all been sleeping in the same bedroom. I think we can deal with a smallish house for 10 months. Now we are just sitting and waiting to hear back from her. I feel so much better about this house (and price) than the new-fangled duplex. I am a bit nervous about it although I'm not sure why. I think part of it is the fact that we've never lived in a house before! Even now we keep finding ourselves thinking "this house renting is too hard! Let's just get an apartment." lol, we need to be patient.
Wendi, I'm really sorry to see you go from lj. But you have to do what's best for you. *hugs*
