It is cold today. Clear skies, but very cold. I had an exam in class, I think I did well. On my last exam I made a 72. I love the fact that I'm auditing because I don't have to care about grades. I studied more for this test and tried to learn to write the characters. I did learn most of them. As a matter of fact, I had a hard time sleeping last night as visions of Chinese characters danced through my head.
Because my class is in the morning, we've moved home school to the afternoons. Generally it works out well. However, today just as we had settled down at the table, Mariannette's nanny knocked on the door and brought in the baby. First, you should be aware that Zou and Wang (Mariannette's nanny) are best friends. We found Zou with Wang's help. When they get together, they talk loudly. It was quite disruptive to my home schooling efforts. Throw in the mix the baby, who all my boys love as another brother, and it was practically impossible. I was pretty TO'd that she came up in the middle of home school. I took all my boys back to my bedroom, and shut the door (rather slammed it. How rude of me! I'm embarrassed of that now...how old am I?) and we worked in the bedroom for a while. They didn't get the hint though, because she hung out at our house for about another half hour. This normally isn't a problem because the nanny's are usually gone shortly after lunch. Today the schedules were different. I should have more patience. I know Mariannette will talk to Wang about staying away if I ask her to. We'll see if it becomes a continual problem or if it was just a one time thing.
And now on to the most wonderful part of the day: As I was sitting in class, Chris stuck his head in and asked if he could interrupt (we hadn't officially started yet so it was ok). He then presented me with a beautiful bouquet of red roses! I was so thrilled and surprised. It was completely unexpected. In the center of the bouquet is a blue rose. When I was a little girl, I always wished there was such thing as blue roses. I just thought a blue rose would be so magical, so very beautiful. I love that he remembered that and had them include a blue rose. It's been dyed blue and dipped in silver glitter, but it's still a real rose :) I'm afraid I wasn't quite as romantic for his Valentine's Day present. I got him a set of four antique books that he needed as primary sources for his dissertation. He says it's the perfect gift, but it still seems a little lame. I must post a pic of the flowers, as they are packaged quite differently here in China than flowers usually are in the States. Camera phone pic to follow shortly...
