Friday we went to the beach. It was an overcast, somewhat foggy day. It seems strange that we waited until a cloudy, cool day when the weather had been so amazingly beautiful earlier in the week. We certainly have to go again on a clearer day.

The boys, of course, went crazy. Connor felt a little weirded out by the sand between his toes. He wouldn't go down to the waves and play like the older boys. He mostly wandered around in the drier sand, looking for shells. I lectured Zack and Petey about not getting wet because it was cold outside and if they got wet we'd have to go home sooner than we wanted to. I did agree to let them run from the waves as they crashed on the shore. Seemed safe to me, although now I realize keeping dry and wave running just do not go hand in hand. After about the first 30 seconds, Petey tripped and fell fast first into the water. It was very shallow water, just a wave rushing back to see, but deep enough to drench him head to toe. He just laughed, got back up and kept playing. He didn't care that the water was freezing. They had a blast. We all fun.

The beach was scattered with tiny bright blue jellyfish. They were about the size of pnut m&m's and they were still inflated. We also saw dolphins earlier this week. I love seeing all this marine life.

I was in charge of taking pics while we were at the beach. At one point, I reached down to get the camera out of my pocket and it was gone. I asked Chris if I'd handed it to him (I knew I hadn't but I was hoping) and he said "no...." with a baffled and suspicious look. I suddenly realized that meant that I had dropped it on the beach and took off running back towards where we'd come down onto the sand. In front of me, I saw two of the beaches most infamous scavengers: a seagull pecking at something and a man with a metal detector. I started running faster, fearing that my camera was disappearing into a strange man's pocket. Luckily the sea gull was the one who found it first. He ran away when he saw me coming, and it looks like his pecking didn't do any damage :) However, the camera was wet and it's pretty obvious that it had been washed about in the tide a wee bit. The lens cover won't close because of sand. It does still take pictures though, so that's the good news :)

Happy Christmas Eve! All of Chris' brothers and sisters are here, except benji. We're having our big dinner tonight, mostly prepared by Gwen, Debbie and I. We've assured Margaret that she can relax today.

One last thing: Zack, Connor and I woke up somewhat early this morning and were headed down the stairs for breakfast. As Zack walked down the steps, he was looking at the pictures on the wall and saw one of Jesus. He said "Look Mom, Jesus. I'm going to think about Jesus today." Suddenly we heard a deep booming voice come from the family room "Zack I'm in here!" It totally freaked me out because I knew everyone else was asleep upstairs. It turned out to be Richard.
What a heart pounding way to start the day!
