Dec. 13th, 2006 08:49 amThis will have to be quick. Chris and I are headed into town with Mariannette and Rene this morning to do the last of our Christmas shopping. I have a long list and only about 3 hours. I really hope I can get it done!!
Yesterday we attended a birthday party for one of the administrative assistants, Cat. In accordance with her personality, she decided to put on a concert. She sang "Hey, Jude", "IOIOIO" "Pretty Boy" and "All I Want for Christmas is You". She had Sailing sing with her on IOIOIO and they were dressed in matching outfits. During "All I Want" she had two of the students do back up dancing for her. It was a Cat-straviganza and it was so much fun. It was a little uncomfortable when she sang "Pretty Boy" because it was clear that she was singing it to her boyfriend, who is one of the American students. He leaves in a few days to go back to America, but he has promised her that he'll be coming back after he graduates in one more semester. She completely believes him. I'd hate to see her heart get broken, but it's hard to believe he'll actually keep this promise.
Before the party began, Cat came over to my apartment (she and Sailing are our next door neighbors) and I helped her put on her make up and fix her hair for the show. As I was putting on her make up, I was trying to remember when was the last time I helped another person put on their make up? Maybe when I was 15 or 16? I felt like I was playing dress up. It was fun, even though I was very nervous because I'm not especially talented in that way. I thought for sure I'd mess it up. I was particularly anxious about doing her eyebrows. I've never had to worry about filling out my eyebrows, I'm always trying to thin them! The whole thing turned out really well.
It's strange to think that these students are leaving and we'll be meeting a whole new batch when we get back. Mariannette made a dvd with photos set to music. It was done so well, and really shows how much fun everyone had here. I think I forgot to mention that she is now employed by the program. Basically she's getting paid to do what she's been doing all along: plan parties and group funcitons. She'll also be doing some book keeping as well.
