Nov. 9th, 2006 09:27 pmThe dog decided to bark and snap at us again, this time focusing on Connor. The whole family and Zou were walking up the street towards the van to go into town. Zou was carrying Connor. As she walked past the dog, it lunged at her and began barking ferociously. Well, this time Chris was with us and he ran at the dog. He yelled and spread his arms, making his body as large as he could. Chris is 6 ft 1 in, and has a thick body build. He's a large man, especially compared to the average Chinese body build. When he was yelling at that dog he made a very imposing figure. The dog initially backed off, but he kept barking and all the hair on his back rose up. The lady in the red sweater came out of the house and tried to calm both Chris and the dog down. She kept telling Chris not to worry, that the dog wouldn't bite. Chris told her she needs to keep her dog tied up, but she didn't seem to agree with that idea. There was a white chow that hung out with that dog, but Zou said that is was killed because it bit someone. I do not like living down the road from a dog who is so aggressive. I need to get a big stick to carry with me every time we go outside.
Once we got into town, the whole family went to get haircuts. We found a barber that we liked shortly after we moved here. We actually found them quite by accident, but we've continued to go to them. It's on the same street as several other salons that all look alike. We always wander down the street, peering into each salon until we recognize our barbers. This time it was even more difficult to recognize because they'd remodeled half their shop into a clothing store. It is amazing how quickly things change here. The boys have had their hair cut their several times, but this was the first time I did. Initially I was trying to grow my hair long and/or wait until we got home to have a haircut. I just couldn't hold out any longer, my hair looked so rough. Well, I'm really glad that I had it cut. The guy did such an excellent job. He took his time trimming and re-trimming. Even after he finished and styled it, he still saw a few hairs that looked too long to him so he put the cape back on me and cut again. Considering that I couldn't really tell him what I wanted, and just had to indicate with my hands, he did a superb job. I'm very pleased with it. On the way home, Chris was sitting behind me in the van. He reached up and started petting my hair :) He really likes the hair cut too.
After haircuts, we went to Skyways to get some "real" bread and sandwiches. As the taxi was taking us, we came upon a traffic accident. A taxi driver had hit a bicyclist. The bike was laying about 20 ft. away from the taxi. He must have hit it very hard to cause it to go so far. We saw 4 men carrying an unconscious woman and putting her into the back of another taxi. It was surreal to witness, and I'm glad we didn't see the actual accident happen.
When we were sitting at the traffic light by the accident, Chris said to our driver "There are too many cars here." The driver replied "There are too many people here."
