The National Holiday has officially begun. This is basically the Chinese equivalent to the 4th of July, except it lasts for a whole week. Chen is taking off for a week (what will I do!!?!), school is out, etc. A lot (LOT!) of people travel during this time. From what I've heard, it is virtually impossible to get a train ticket during this week unless you book it in advance.

Apparently, Nanjing is a hot tourist destination for the Holiday week. Last night I tried to wave down a taxi for over a half hour with no luck. Chris was already at the restaurant and I was to bring the boys and meet him there. He ended up getting a taxi at the restaurant and coming to pick us up, then we had the taxi driver take us back to the restaurant. Craziness. So, this evening we decided instead of taking a taxi we would just walk to our destination (a department store. It was the furthest we've had the kids walk yet and they did great! No complaints, no mishaps or brushes with death. I'm really proud of how the kids have risen to the demands that living here has placed on them. Also, tonight we went to a Chinese restaurant and Zack tried almost every dish. Those of you who know him realize what a huge accomplishment that is :)

At the store, I found a curling brush-blow dryer. I can't tell you how excited I am to finally have something to fix my hair with. I left mine in the States because I knew the plug wouldn't be compatible here. I've asked about them, but no one could figure out what I was talking about. I found one :) And, when we walked out of the store, there was a taxi parked at the curb just waiting for us. Life is good.
