I put the kettle on to boil the water for my oatmeal. I came back here to answer email and read friend's entries, while I waited for it to boil. Next thing I realize is an odd smell. I go back into the kitchen to find that the kettle has boiled dry and it has melted to the hot eye of the stove. Scary! I turned it off, tried to pull the kettle off, but it was stuck tight. I thought about pouring water onto the eye (I have an electric stove) but decided that wouldn't be the smartest move. After it cooled down a bit, the kettle came off without a problem, but there is paint stuck to the eye still. I guess I need a new kettle.

The irony in all this? My mom did the exact same thing when I was growing up. I remember thinking (since I've been an adult) "How did she let that happen?" Silly me. Like mother, like daughter, eh?

After [livejournal.com profile] masteralida mentioned she was downloading episodes of LOST from iTunes, I decided to look into what other TV shows could be downloaded. Chris and I have recently discovered "The Office" this year and we love it. We downloaded and watched 2 first season episodes last night. So funny. We also rented the first season of the BBC version from Blockbuster this weekend. Pretty funny, but I have to admit that I prefer the American version (probably because I watched it first, and it is cleaner.) I actually watched quite a lot of TV yesterday since I was sitting around feeling awful. "Mad Hot Ballroom" is a documentary about inner city schools learning and competing in ballroom dancing. I watched it with Petey. I watched about 2 hours of Spongebob last night with the kids. I can't help it, he cracks me up.

My brain probably atrophied 20 IQ points yesterday, from all that TV. On a happier note, my sinus pressure has lessened a great deal. My teeth ache a little, but they no longer feel as if they are about to explode. What a relief :)

I downloaded an Eat Meter tool bar from calorie-count.com. After filling out a form with my weight and calorie allowance, I can enter what I eat throughout the day and the meter will slowly fill up as I approach my limit. I really liked it at first. It is a really easy way to keep a food diary and it adds up the calories for me so that I don't have to think about it. As I approach my limit, it turns yellow.

Now for the draw-backs: when I surpass my calorie limit (even my one calorie!), it turns bright red. Then, I feel hesitant to enter anything else I eat during the day. I need to be honest with myself and do it anyway. Another down side is that Chris and the boys have become interested in the eat meter. Yesterday Chris kept commenting on it "I see you over half way there." "Oh, it's red!" He doesn't mean it in a snarky way, he's just making conversation. I just feel so self conscious about my weight loss efforts that I don't want any commenting.

Chris made brownies on Sunday and I've been eating on them ever since. Thank goodness there is only one left! I even got up in the middle of the night last night to eat one. That's when I know I've totally given up myself control, when I find that I'm eating junk food at 2:30 a.m. Or when I'm eating junk food for breakfast. I'm so glad those brownies are gone.
