They did mention the four-toed foot. They compared Lost to an archeological dig, with many different levels and complexities. This season's "dig" mostly dealt with the others. The statue is another "dig" and refers to a much older period in the islands history.
I wonder if Mr. Eko's brother's plane also went down because of a magnetic incident...and the hot airballon, too. What about the slave ship? It must have landed well before the darhma initiative began. So mysterious...I love it!
