My motherly instinct did not steer me wrong this time. If I had sent Zack to school, he would have had his own traumatic childhood story to relate. He is sick, sick, sick. Sitting on the toilet, with his head in the trashcan...does it get anymore sick than that. He said "Mom, I think this is the end for me." I replied "What do you mean?"I'm hoping he means the end of his sickness. But, no. In true Dramatic Zack fashion, he means the end of his life. My poor boy. I had one of those awful "DON"T GIGGLE" mom moments. I forced myself to keep a straight face, and assured him that as horrible as barfing is, it is not the end for him. He will yet live to see tomorrow.

I will not be attending book club tonight :( I haven't had time to write my paper, and even if I had I wouldn't feel right leaving Zack.

Shucks. I'll just have to comfort myself with "Earl" and "The Office". Hmm. From discussing victorian gothic novels to watching mindless tv. bummer.

Thanks for the well wishes. He feels much better today, but I kept him home just to prevent the spread of germs around the classroom. (One of my pet peeves is parents sending their sick kids to school to infect the rest of the children.)

Poor, poor, Zack. It's just awful to be in that position - literally. And he's just a young'un.

I remember being 9 or 10, and my mom and I both had the honest to goodness flu - only time I've ever really had that in my life. We had been ill for several days and were lying up in my mom's bed, feeling just hideous. I didn't mean to be funny, but I said, "Lord, I hear you calling. You can have me." My poor mom - lying there all achy and weak and fevered laughing like that.

The one time I was really, really, really sick we were on Ski Week, a week in March when our family would join the other military families and go to Garmisch and learn to ski for a week. Anyway, I felt fine during the day but at night all I did was puke. I don't remember any of this - but my mom said it was so bad and all over the bathroom that she almost got sick. But you know, moms are just so cool. Because they suck it up and say sweet things and not giggle when their dramatic children say, "This is the end for me."

You know, what a precious moment. I know its gross with the barfing and all but just at that moment when he said it was the end, I can just imagine your heart swelling with love and tenderness.

Poor guy - I am SOOOOOO saying prayers for the rest of your family and Zack so that none of you get it too.

PS I love your '50s icon, is she famous?

I don't know who the woman in the icon is. I picked it up at [livejournal.com profile] book_icons.

Sweet Zack. He is still thanking me for helping him through that moment. It must have been very awful, because it left quite an impression on him. He said "I felt like I was going into the future."

Good to see you on lj again :)

That story is funny, in a sad way. It would make a perfect scene for a movie or book :) That's exactly how he felt yesterday, too. He is much better today, hooray!
