Gavin and Stacey
Apr. 7th, 2010 10:30 amLately, Chris and I have been watching this BBC show, Gavin and Stacey. We're in love with it, not so much for the plot, but just for the quirky characters and the awesome Welsh accents. I tell you, it has totally permeated my psyche. My inner monologue has been Welsh for the past three days!
One of the things I love about British stars is how average they are. For example, Nessa in this show is a sex goddess despite her size. Gavin, the main guy, has gappy teeth (like me!) yet he's still considered a good looking chap. Not everyone has to be perfect, and none of them really are, to be good actors, sexy (think Dawn French in the Vicar of Dibley) or attractive. People are allowed to be normal. We need a good dose of that in American tv. Even our "reality" stars are exceptionally beautiful. It is rare to see an average-looking person on tv, and when we do, it is usually because something in their life needs to be overhauled.
