Draper Temple Open house
Feb. 14th, 2009 09:03 amThe drive to Utah went really smoothly. I'm not usually one who can push through on a long car drive without stopping somewhat frequently. I did really well yesterday though, because I got off to a late start and I had to be here in time for the Draper temple open house. We were a tad bit late to the open house, but that didn't matter. The is the first time I've been to a temple open house and I thought it would be a really good experience for the boys. For those of you who aren't LDS, once a temple has been dedicated (basically officially opened, and blessed with a prayer), it is not open to the general public. Children do not begin attending the temple until they are 12 and then they only enter certain areas. This was a rare chance for the kids to see every part of the temple before they become adults. This temple was one of the most lovely I've ever been in (I've been to temples in Atlanta, Orlando, St. Louis, Spokane and Boise.) The ordinance rooms had beautiful murals and the celestial room was just amazing. The ceiling was very, very high with ornate details around the molding. We also had a chance to sit in one of the sealing rooms. For the most part we had to just keep moving through each room, like a constant shuffling que. Sitting in the sealing room was the only chance we had to just sit and enjoy the peacefulness of the temple.
I'll admit that there were times that I found myself getting stressed out because Petey didn't really seem to grasp the concept of how sacred it was in there. Like when we sat in the sealing room, he put his shoes on the furniture. ack! He also kept stepping off the carpet protecting plastic on to the plush, cream colored carpet. He'd reach out and stroke the prayer alters as we passed. I shouldn't have stressed about it so much. In my defense, it was really late and I was exhausted from the marathon drive. We went to the temple right as soon as I pulled up to Melissa's house and we didn't finish until well after 10 p.m. Josh was the complete opposite of Petey. He walked with his arms folded the whole time we were in the temple. It was pretty cute.
It's snowing now and so pretty.
