Apr. 14th, 2008 12:36 pmI can't allow myself to think or read about the raids on the polygamist compounds in Texas. When we lived in Arizona, this topic was in the news a lot and if I allow myself to dwell on it, it really gets under my skin. I can think of nothing else.
I feel such pity for the mothers whose children have been taken away. I've seen interviews with escapees from the FLDS church. These girls are brain-washed from the time they are babies. They have no interaction with the "real" world. Truthfully, in my heart, I blame all this evil on the men in the community. They perpetuate the sickness, they are the ones marrying young girls one after another. And now all these children have been removed from their mothers. Ack, my heart just goes out to them. I guess if this situation were going to be resolved to my liking, the women of the community could have the choice of leaving the FLDS compound and setting up their own home with their own children. I'm guessing though, with women who are taught to be so very reliant on men, this wouldn't be a choice that many of them would pick. How would they support themselves? I wonder how they could possibly choose to stay with their husbands rather than their children? What a sick, sad situation.
btw, if you're wondering what got me all riled up about this, it was the fact that CNN referred to the FLDS church as "a rogue branch of the Mormon church." Wrong! A branch indicates that it is still attached to the main "tree" of Mormonism. This is like saying that Baptists are a branch of Catholicism. No. The break was made long ago.
