Sarah likes to keep Headline News on all the time while we are at work. I think this is partially because for so many years she has worked here alone, but also because she wants to know if anything significant is happening (like 9/11, for example). At first, this bothered me a lot because the tv is in my office, literally only a few steps away from my desk. I am not one who likes to have nonstop noise just for the sake of noise. I love silence (a good trait in a librarian?) Also, it is depressing to hear these news snippets over and over again all day long. Jon and Kate, Ft. Knox shooting, gang rapes, Rhiana and Chris. I know more about celebrities now than I ever have in my whole life!

But now I've found that I have grown to almost like it. When they start talking about Jon and Kate, I might stop what I'm doing to see what's up with them lately. I've never even watched a whole episode of Jon and Kate Plus Eight, but now I am suddenly interested?! I feel a need to know what's going on and I like being more in the loop when it comes to the news. I am just so thankful that she doesn't keep it on Fox like the media specialist does at the boys' school. That drives me nuts. (sorry dear Fox-loving friends, it just isn't my cup of tea.)

I'm not a Fox fan either. I do think the news is slightly biased towards the left, but Fox doesn't do a good job of being objective either. They say they do, but I've heard more crazy far right stuff there as much as I hear far left on other news channels.

I've been thinking about silence verses non-silence lately. Some days I really need my silence. This morning I thought for sure Mike didn't have on ESPN. I couldn't hear anything from the living room at all. And I was so happy! It was quiet! But then I found out he just had the volume turned down really low. Later at work, I could not not have something on. I think partly because I'm feeling a big disconnect lately with a couple of my co-workers and having my earphones in kind of puts a sign out there, "hey, I'm otherwise pre-occupied, please leave me be." (Although, our temp has the bad habit of ignoring any sign of "i'm busy, this is not a good time." Anyway...

And some days I scour the internet for tv shows to listen to as I do data entry. The worst is when I have nothing to do so I always have to have something going - you tube videos, etc.

So what are Jon and Kate up to these days?

lol, well he has found religion! He went on national tv at a synagogue and asked Kate to forgive him.

Last year when I worked at IDEA sometimes I would keep my earbuds in, even if nothing was playing, just because I didn't feel like talking to my co-workers. I understand :)

I need softer earbuds. Mine hurt. poo

I started listening to CNN in the car just to keep more current with the news. My DH thinks I'm crazy. He can't stand hearing the news or talk radio. I just feel like it keeps me more current, since I often don't watch the news at night. I'll probably eventually grow out of the phase, but I could see myself getting used to, and enjoying, having the headline news on at work. As long as I could work with the noise. Right now I have a singer on the other side of my cube, loudly bursting into spontaneous song; I'd prefer headlines news. LOL.
