"If we have to pay you 5 cents every time we pick our nose, does that mean we can buy nose picks?"

-Petey's response to my decree that every time I catch them picking their nose they have to pay me 5 cents. I'm not trying to strike up a business deal here! I just want them to stop picking their nose in public!! I thought by fining them, they'd learn to pick their noses more discretely, like in the bathroom or something. Nothing doing. They've pretty much decided that it's worth paying the money.

What can I do?

I say change the negative consequence to a positive one. How about a dollar for every week they don't pick their noses in public? Of course, then you run into them finding creative ways to hide it. Kids can be so sneaky.

Wow, you are so much nicer than me!! Paying the child to *not* doing something that would drive me crazy? Hmmm... I'd fear them coming up with a series of get rich schemes. lol

There's no doubt in my mind that they'd never make to the end of the week. And, to be honest, I don't mind if they do it in secret. My big complaint is public nose picking. Like when we're at church and all three of them have their fingers in their nose at the same time. It's just too much.
