There's no place like home, there's no place like home...

Tornado Alley, here we come!

We're moving to Kansas! I know, right? Kansas!! Chris has been offered a job with Fort Hays State University. The job is initially a one year temporary position, but they've made it clear that if they like him then he will be invited to stay permanently.

Kansas!

The town we are moving to is Hays, a historical little spot just about smack dab in the middle of the country. You all know Hays, although you don't know you know. Hays (back when it was Fort Hays) is the last stop the main character in "Dances with Wolves" makes before he ventures off into the frontier.

The LDS church is much smaller there than the last few places we've lived (China aside). For example, it will take us an hour and a half to drive to our stake center. It takes us 20 minutes now. We are fortunate that Hays has it's own LDS congregation, so that's good news. Hopefully there will be a decent sized Cub Scout troop.

It is a huge relief knowing that we have a job for next year, and that the job has potential for permanence. It has been such a trial on the kids to move once a year for the past three years. They've been troopers about it, and I feel we really do owe it to them to settle down for a few years.

It's a smallish town, but we'll soon make it home.

Congrats!

I think I like small branches better actually. When I was in grad school I was called to be YW president - no way that would happen in a traditional large family ward.

When we lived in China we were in a branch of 20 for a while and I agree, it was nice. Still, I'm in no hurry to be in a big calling like YW president. Right now I teach YW on Sunday and that's just about my speed :)

YAY!!!!

I can't wait to see all the things you'll discover when you move there. Check out that rodeo *lol*.

Please tell Chris that I'm really excited for him. Mike and I are both so happy for him, you and the boys.

lol, it's funny to think my boys might get into the rodeo scene :)

Wow! Congrats! At least it's a move closer to home, yes? I've only driven through a small part of Kansas, but I thought it was nice.

The funny thing is that it is exactly half way home. 20 hours from Spokane to Hays, 20 hours from Hays to my parents' home.

Congratulations! That's awesome. I am sure you can grow roots there and make it home for you and your family. Job permanence would be awesome and why wouldn't they like him?! ;)

My thoughts exactly :)

We'll be moving sometime in mid-July.

Wow, that's exciting news. Hopefully it will turn out to be a good match for your family where you can, in fact, settle for a while.

YAY! Congrats! We drove thru there on our way to the Rockies in 1995.

When I first saw "Kansas" I was wondering if you would be part of the temple in Oklahoma City. That's the one that my cousins have gone to as it is the closest to here in Rogers.

[identity profile] mysteena.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's a good question, I don't know which temple we'll attend. I'll have to look into that.
