Bobcat...yay, Zack!

Chris just told me that he has a colleague in his office who has never watched Star Wars. She said she tried to watch it once but it was too boring. The ultimate irony? Her field of study is Medieval history, which many people would argue is much more "boring" than Star Wars could ever be.

Right now Chris is watching "Army of Darkness" on tv. We were trying to decide if this qualifies as science fiction or not. He argues yes because of the time vortex that gets him there in the first place. I argue no, that it is a fantasy. Anyway, the point of the discussion is because I have to write a paper on the definition of science fiction. I'd love to here the opinions of my livejournal friends. How do you define "science fiction"?

Zack got his Bobcat tonight. I'd forgotten that as his mom, I am given a small pin every time he advances up the Boy Scout ladder. As part of the ceremony, Zack was suppose to pin my Bobcat pin to my shirt. I was nervous as I had a little bit of doubt in his ability to pin my shirt and not my skin. He got the pin into my shirt ok, but then came the time to put the back onto it. He dropped the back down my shirt...right there in front of the whole group. Luckily, I caught it before it went all the way down but I had to reach down my shirt and retrieve it. There was no way to deal with this gracefully, as the Cub Scout Master let loose a shriek of laughter. She certainly enjoyed the whole thing. A few seconds later I had found the back to the pin and Zack put it on with no further problems. Next time, I'm wearing a shirt with a collar he can pin it to :) Just think, if all the boys do Boy Scouts, I could have a plethora of pins by the end of our scouting years.

Is it me, or has LJ been dead today? Are you guys all playing Halo 3 or what? I'm lonely here in Spokane with no real friends! I need my virtual friends:)

I LOVE Army of Darkness, it's such a silly movie. I think, to classify this movie, it's good to know what it's two predecessors are considered. Evil Dead I and II are both classified as horror. And they are gory movies, but hilarious in that same silly way as Army of Darkness. Both have the vortex thingy in them as well. Bruce Campbell does some amazing acting in the scene in which he chops off his hand (it gets possessed). These movies are some of my favorite movies. Silly, scary, TONS of really bad fake blood. I'd have to say that Army of Darkness though is a mixture of all genres: Horror because it's the third movie in a trilogy (although Evil Dead II is really just a retelling of Evil Dead I, almost line by line), Sci-fi because of the vortex, and fantasy because of all the wizard/witch/medieval things. What did you think of it?

How has anyone not seen Star Wars?

The pin story is kind of funny, but I laughed when I read that the pin back fell down your shirt. Funny in one of those not harmful Murphy's Law kind of ways.

No Halo 3 for me, not yet. Too expensive.
